Mesut Ozil is struggling to agree terms on a new Arsenal contract and a failure to find a resolution could force Arsene Wenger to reluctantly sell Alexis Sanchez, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Arsenal’s two top earners have both entered the final year of their contracts and despite Wenger’s public claim to the contrary, Arsenal are unwilling to run the risk of of both players walking away on a free next summer, and with Ozil continuing to drag his feet he could inadvertently help Sanchez complete his desired move to Manchester City.

Unlike Sanchez, Ozil has failed to attract genuine interest from any of Europe’s heavyweight clubs with China and Turkey touted as his most likely escape routes, neither of which represent attractive options at this stage of his career.

Sanchez, by contrast, has been linked with a stream of elite clubs including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. The Chile international, however, is said to have his heart set on a move to Manchester City and a reunion Pep Guardiola, who coached him during his time at Barcelona.

The 28-year-old is reportedly demanding £300,000-a-week, which has priced Carlo Ancelotti’s Bundesliga champions out of the race, leaving City as the clear favourites to land the versatile forward who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season.
