Sick thug murdered sister with petrol bomb after being left out of their father’s will

A man murdered his sister by dousing her with flammable liquid and setting the vapors alight as she sat on a sofa at home.

Stephen Archer was found guilty of murdering Julie Archer, 49, after killing her with a petrol bomb after he was left out of their father’s will.

Julie suffered ‘horror movie’ injuries, Manchester Crown Court heard, while her daughter escaped by jumping naked out of a window.

The killing came after he had falsely accused his sister of having murdered their father and their uncle and doctoring a will to disinherit him, the Manchester Evening News reports.

While wanted by police, and before Julie Archer died in hospital, Archer sent his sister a ‘get well soon’ card in which he said: “Karma has punished you through me.”

Ms Archer’s daughter, Quibilah Archer-Cunningham, was upstairs getting ready for college at the time of the fatal incident.

She felt what she thought was an earthquake, but was confronted by thick black smoke when she was led from the room by her agitated dog.

She escaped with minor injuries after leaping naked from an upstairs window of the house in Newton Heath, on the morning of February 29 last year.

Archer, 51, of Victoria Street, Openshaw, denied murdering his sister and arson with intent to endanger his niece’s life.

He was found guilty of murder after jurors deliberated for less than half a day, but cleared of arson with intent to endanger life.

The killer claimed he doused Julie Archer in self-defence, and that she caught fire because she was lighting a cigarette at the time.

The court heard the siblings’ father had died weeks earlier, leaving his estate to Julie and another sister, Gillian, who said Archer was ‘obsessed’ with petrol bombs.

On Facebook and in texts, Mr Archer falsely accused Julie of having poisoned their father and their uncle.

In a birthday card sent at the same time of the ‘get well soon’ card, he said: “Mam, just a note to say I’m truly sorry for what I did to Julie, but she deserved it for what she did to my dad.”

Archer will be sentenced at 10am tomorrow.

There was a cry of ‘yes’ from the public gallery as the verdict was returned, and Archer showed no emotion.
